Ok, here is showing you how the majority of people hold the camera and how I hold the camera. The top is how the majority of dSLR users hold the camera and to the right of it is how the picture turned out because of it (EXIF info written on each picture). The bottom is how I hold the camera and the picture that resulted.

The top shows the camera pressed against my eye, right hand holding the grip, and left hand supporting the lens. This, while much more stable than the Point and shoot way, is still not that stable. The bottom shows the camera pressed against my eye and shoulder bone, right hand on the grip and pushing the camera into my shoulder bone, left hand pushing against my right hand, and elbow supporting the end of the lens.

I think the pictures speak for themselves, after the crop factor the lens is set at 320mm. According to the rule of thumb my shutter speed should be set at 1/320 of a second, but the shutter speed is 1/25 of a second in each of the pictures. Using the first method the end picture is unreasonably soft and would never be used. The second method however produces a reasonably sharp image and might be able to be used.

The second method can be used for shorter lenses as well as the telephoto I was using, the position is altered slightly however. For shorter lenses the elbow does not support the end of the lens unless the lens is very long for the shorter focal length. I hope this helped you!
