Throwing some thoughts out there

Throwing some thoughts out there

It seems as though my summer is rather booked with college, but I want to get at least one good trip out of it. So I am looking at driving out to Yellowstone in early-mid August before the Fall semester starts up. I don't have any solid plans yet, but I thought I'd speak up about it to see if anyone is interested in going as well if it pans out. I wouldn't mind having a few people joining me for some good photography opportunities.

It'll be about a 16 hour drive for me from southern California, so if anyone is along the route then let me know. I'm hoping to do about a day of driving there and then spend 5 days or so and then a day of driving back, so a week trip, although it is subject to change. And if anyone is interested, I am considering the rental of a 600mm ƒ/4L to bring along so I'll have my 300mm ƒ/2.8 for anything closer and a 600mm for far out animals, plus my teleconverters. We could split the costs and share the rental lens.

Weekly tips

This week's tip: Experimentation

I'm sure that as you grow as a photographer you develop a certain style that you shoot. Although that poses the danger of getting stuck in a certain style and not growing because of it. Take a look through your favorite deviantart gallery and find an image that really strikes you as a great photo and try out that style for a change. Combine your normal style with the style of that photo and see what results, you might surprise yourself!

I'm alive

I'm alive

Yes, surprising as it is, I am alive. Life got hectic so I was away for a good amount of time, but I'll try to get back active again now. I should be uploading a few pictures soon, so you'll have some eye candy to look at to make up for my lack of posting for a while.

And I got a new project, I'm going to be converting a Minolta Rokkor 58mm ƒ/1.2 to EOS mount soon. This will be a fun project and a very useful lens for me to have in the future, so keep your eyes pealed for some extreme depth of field in the near future! ;)

That is all.

This week's tip: Time

Ever been editing a picture for an hour or two and now you finally think you've got it perfect? Then after posting the picture you come back in an hour and say "wow, I overdid that", I have, and there is a solution. Instead of uploading right after you're done editing, take a break for an hour or two and come back as that will allow your mind to see a picture without seeing it relative to the other edits you just made.

Here's an update for you

Here's an update for you

For those who were interested in my last journal I just thought that I would post an update to it. All of my old lenses were sold and have been received and enjoyed by their new owners (all the transactions went through without a hitch :)).

I've also now received all of my new lenses, which are the Canon 20-35mm ƒ/2.8L, Canon 28-70mm ƒ/2.8L, Canon 100mm ƒ/2, Canon 200mm ƒ/2.8L, and my new pride and joy the Canon 300mm ƒ/2.8L IS! I'm probably going to save up a bit more right now and get something in the 14mm range and then everything will go towards a 5D mark II (Or classic 5D if the price comes down far enough).

So now you know

Ok, so I am in the middle of switching up my entire lens lineup right now, not a single old lens will remain! The Canon 17-40mm has already sold, Sigma 500mm ƒ/4.5 is in the process of being traded for a Canon 300mm ƒ/2.8L IS, Canon 50mm has been sold, and the Canon 70-200mm ƒ/4L is still for sale ($480 shipped if anyone is interested). I'll be getting the Sigma 14mm ƒ/2.8 or Canon 17-35mm ƒ/2.8L, Canon 28-70mm ƒ/2.8L or Canon 24-70mm ƒ/2.8L, Canon 100mm ƒ/2, Canon 200mm ƒ/2.8L, and Canon 300mm ƒ/2.8L IS. Some of those lenses may be switched in for others, but that's the current plan, and I'll also be getting a Canon 2x Extender to add to my 1.4x Extender.

I think that this lens lineup will be better suited for my style of shooting and no lenses will be slower than ƒ/2.8 which will also be very nice. And sorry for such a long delay between uploading photos, I've been busy, I'll try to get in a shoot next week to have something nice to upload (That is if I have any lenses with me ).
