I'm gonna be getting new stuff soon UPDATE

I'm gonna be getting new stuff soon :)

Yes, I will be purchasing some new gear soon. First of which will be a nice Carbon Fibre tripod that can support 20 pounds and weighs just 2.5 pounds, second of which will be a bogen ball head for general usage and third of which will be a Wimberley tripod head. The next two are the new lenses I will be getting, I will be getting a Canon 500mm ƒ/4L and a Sigma 150-500mm.

Good thing I'm graduating this year, as that means more money to fund this stuff. I'm going to get the Tripod and ball head first, then the Canon 500mm and Wimberley head when I can fund the purchase. And I'll get the 150-500mm last, as I want the 500mm prime to play with first ;). Anyways, I've decided on these lenses because they provide me with the focal length I desire and are sharp, plus they are all professional glass (The Sigma is their EX line which is the best they produce). Maybe someday I'll be able to get Canon's CPS service.

UPDATE:
The tripod and head should be here by the middle of next week at the latest. But I won't be able to play with it much or do much photography at all until at least the end of next week. Next week is finals for me and I have to study and all that plus getting ready for graduation. I'll try to find some photos to upload, but don't expect anything in the immediate future, sorry about this ^^;.

Weekly tips

Today's tip: Bring a frame
Get an actual frame to bring with you on shoots to help you find the composition you want. Bring it closer to your face to zoom out and further from your face to zoom in and frame it how it looks most pleasing to you.

Why not get a 300 prime with a 1.6/2x extender. That way you can use the glass with a wider array of subjects--will also save you some dough and a few pounds less of travel gear.
I heavily considered that option, but in the end it came to the fact that I didn't want to have to rely on an extender to get the range that I wanted, that worsens image quality, aperture, and autofocus speed. That Sigma lens should take care of any subjects that are too close for the 500mm and the image quality on that is, from what I've read from the limited reviews so far, very good.

NIIIICE!:wow: The Bigma is an awesome lens, but the Canon L is in a whole different league. I was contemplating the 70-200 f2.8 IS and add the 2x converter, but a little more research and common sense prevailed and I went for the 100-400 f5.6 L IS instread, which is far sharper at 400 than the 200 + 2x. (same f-stop but more glass).

Good idea to get a nice sturdy crane of a tripod to handle all that lense (either Canon or Bigma) :)

Ok... I'll pretend I know what you're all going on about XD

I just wanted to say congrats on being able to get the new stuff, man. ^^
Guess that means you'll be having some new pics up soon. :)

The tip about the frame, can't you just frame the picture using the viewfinder or screen on your camera?

You can. But think about it, with an actual frame you can see so much more of the actual scene than with the viewfinder unless you have a 14mm lens on a full frame camera.

Awesome!!! A Sigma 150-500 is on my "camera stuff to buy" list too! It might be awhile before I get it though...
